Rick Scott should say thank you
07/20/2010
Florida's GOP lawmakers did Rick Scott a favor by abruptly calling it quits and going home rather than play oil-pong with Gov. Charlie Crist.
Scott is scheduled to begin his first campaign bus tour Wednesday and if lawmakers had stayed in Tallahassee for their special session it could have deprived Scott of free coverage of his campaign to win the Republican nomination for governor.
Of course Scott is pretending he is outraged by GOP leaders who shut down the session mere hours after it began. He wanted them to stick around and pass an "Arizona style immigration law."
“Instead of using the special session for something productive, the career politicians in Tallahassee have yet again wasted taxpayer dollars for a political stunt," Scott said. "I called upon the legislature to take up one of the biggest problems facing our state – illegal immigration – by passing an Arizona style immigration law, but the legislators instead chose to avoid the tough issues and go home.”
“We need new blood in our capital to bring results to the people of Florida, not more professional politicians running up a massive tab at the taxpayers’ expense to try to score political points."
In his heart, we believe Scott is really saying a big "thank you" to Tallahassee.
