Crist has twice the cash Rubio has

Electfinal_edited-1 Charlie Crist, former Republican and now the state's first No Party Affliliation governor, raised $1.8 million in the three month period ending June 30.

Not bad for a guy who made a lot of former GOP donors cranky. Meanwhile Republican Marco Rubio raised $4.5 million during the same three months.

The most telling thing however is how much cash they have left in the bank. That's the dough they will be spending leading up to the November elections.

Here, Crist is the clear winner. As of June 30, Crist has $8.2 million in the bank compared to Rubio's $4.4 million.

Be on the lookout for the emergence of various groups dubbed with names such as "Ain't Florida a Wonderful Place" to funnel cash in effort to help Rubio make up the difference without those pesky contribution limits.

What's not certain is whether Crist's decision to abandon the Republican Party has left him without the deep pocket friends necessary to funnel money into cleverly named groups that can help Crist.

Of course, if Jeff Greene wins the Democratic primary against Kendrick Meek, the dollar question becomes more interesting. Greene, a Palm Beach billionaire, is spending his own money in the primary and says he'll spend what it takes to win the November election.

Will the man with the biggest piggy bank win?

We'll see.

Abondroit

The Wall Street Journal has a funny editorial comment today about Crist. Evoking the spirit of John Kerry and his votes on the Second Iraq War:
"The New Charlie is against drilling after he was for it after he was against it. All clear new?"
