Bill McCollum slams Rick Scott
05/18/2010
Well here's one thing that Alex Sink and Bill McCollum agree on - Rick Scott needs to be stopped.
That became clear in pair of attacks on Scott, first from Democrat Alex Sink followed by a "Dear Friend" email note from McCollum campaign manager Matt Williams.
"Rick Scott’s sordid history is a reality that must be addressed," Williams writes. "His business practices are filled with scandal, mismanagement and fraud. Rick Scott was ousted from his business because it perpetrated the largest Medicare fraud scheme in American history."
The McCollum email suggests that the Republican primary for governor is about to get very ugly. The text of the McCollum campaign email is on the next page.
McCollum, Florida's attorney general, watched as Scott climbed in the polls after spending upwards of $5 million in a barrage of campaign ads. With Scott, a Naples businessman within striking distance, McCollum could no longer let Scott go unchallenged.
Here's the McCollum email (bold type emphasis is theirs):
Earlier today, Democrat Alex Sink issued a blistering statement attacking Rick Scott. It was predictable, and sadly, it was accurate. Rick Scott’s sordid history is a reality that must be addressed. His business practices are filled with scandal, mismanagement and fraud. Rick Scott was ousted from his business because it perpetrated the largest Medicare fraud scheme in American history.
Alex Sink took the opportunity to point this out and make no mistake, Alex Sink and the Democrats will continue this line of attack. Florida will not elect as their next Governor someone who has so abused the corporate financial and health systems of America as Rick Scott. Here’s an excerpt from Sink’s campaign statement today:
“Unfortunately for Rick Scott, his record makes very clear that his commitment to accountability is nonexistent. If Rick Scott proposes the same accountability measures for Florida Government that he used at Columbia/HCA, we’ll have to back up the paddy wagon to the front door of the Capitol. Florida simply can't trust someone who was forced to resign as the head of a company that pled guilty to massive amounts of systematic fraud, including 14 felonies, leading to a historic $1.7 billion fine.”
The fact that Rick Scott is running for Governor as a “reformer” would be funny if it wasn’t so outrageous. This is a man who barely escaped imprisonment, whose failure in business has been portrayed on national news and around the world. He is an embarrassment.
Sincerely,
Matt Williams
